Indian Christmas traditions

Itihaas is celebrating Christmas in style this year, we have put together a delicious traditional Indian menu with a festive twist to enlighten your taste buds. Talking all things Christmas, the celebrations, the Indian food, presents and most importantly traditions. In every country the Christmas traditions change, so here at Itihaas we wanted to show you the traditions of Christmas in India.

Compared to other festivities celebrated in India, Christmas is only a small festival however that isn’t to say they hold back on the celebrations. In the lead up to Christmas it becomes very chaotic… with house cleaning, gift buying and not to forget the preparation of the traditional Christmas cake begins. Family, friends and neighbours all enjoy the traditional rich fruit Christmas cake, so no pressure! Christmas in India is a time to bring everyone back together and celebrate with your closest family members, so those working away or studying away from home all return to spend time with their family.

A traditional pine tree isn’t used as a Christmas tree, instead, a mango or banana tree is decorated & the hanging of paper lantern stars between houses is very popular, so the stars float above as you walk through the magical Christmas streets of Goa. In the week leading up to Christmas, there’s plenty of people in India who love to gather together and carol sing for all to hear. Most importantly it is a time to celebrate with your closest family members and appreciate those we love the most.

Food is a huge tradition in India at Christmas time, so we welcome you to visit Itihaas Birmingham restaurant for a taste of India at Christmas time! With exotic flavours, mouth-watering spices and delicious desserts, our Indian cuisine will take the taste of India to a whole new level. Book your table today to avoid disappointment & enjoy our traditional Indian menu with an exquisite Christmas twist.
