Itihaas head up Let’s Feed Brum to feed the city’s homeless
Birmingham based, fine-dining Indian restaurant and wedding caterer, Itihaas, take the lead in helping the homeless by handing out fresh, hot meals to those living on the streets of Brum.
Frustrated with the wasted food thrown away each day by Birmingham restaurants, Itihaas’ managing director Raj Rana has tackled the problem head-on, delivering food to the huge population of homeless people in Birmingham and becoming a figurehead for the Let’s Feed Brum campaign.
The city has the second largest homeless population in the UK, and they are often ignored. Working with creative agency 5874, East Village Agency and Ben Rafiqi, the founder of charity Inspiration Support, Let’s Feed Brum has taken off quickly and managed to get off the ground in time for winter.
Raj and Itihaas’ passion for the cause has led to more people volunteering with the New Street Soup Kitchen, where Raj delivers hot food every single Monday night. More restaurants have also signed up to the cause, and 50-100 homeless people are served each night, proving the invaluable nature of bringing Birmingham’s community together to feed the homeless.
Along with Inspiration Support volunteers, Let’s Feed Brum are always looking for more people to serve up food and provide any other supplies for the homeless, such as sleeping bags, blankets and coats. If you’re a Birmingham restaurant or café, why not take a leaf out of Itihaas’ book- stop discarding all that waste food and get to the streets of Brum!
