Spiciest Indian Dishes on the Itihaas Menu

In Indian cuisine, spice isn’t just about heat. But if you’re coming out for Indian food, you might be looking forward to some chilli in your curry.

There are over 40 spices used in Indian cuisine, such as cumin, turmeric, anise, cardamom, methi and more. Not all are hot spices, like chilli, pepper or mace, but all spices imbue the dish with key flavours and fragrances that make them what they are. For serious heat, you want to choose dishes with Mirchi or Chilli in the menu listing.

At Itihaas, we offer authentic, high-quality Indian dishes, which some reviewers describe as the “best Indian food in Birmingham”.

If you love spice, here are the dishes you’ll adore from our A’la Carte Menu.

Laal Mirchi Rogan Josh

Rogan Josh is a popular classic, and this spicy version is made with plenty of chilli to warm up your palate. Tender spring lamb in a red-hot onion and tomato gravy, spiced with garam masala and garnished with coriander.

Spice Level: Hot.

Try It: A classic for lamb lovers who crave deep, smoky heat.

Mirchi Murgh

The name of this Indian starter means “chilli chicken”: it’s hot. Mirchi Murgh contains fresh green chillies, which are hot and bitter, lending a delicious depth to the overall flavour. Tender chicken tossed in ginger, garlic, fresh green chillies, and tomato julienne.

Spice Level: Very Hot.

Try It: A tantalising balance of heat and flavour with fresh chillies.

Hakka Mock Chicken (Vegetarian)

Not something you’ll find at every Indian restaurant, this is a dish from our Indo-Chinese Starter section. Hakka Mock Chicken offers a vegetarian alternative to Mirchi Murgh. Soya chunks marinated in dark soy, chilli & coriander, seared and stir-fried with spring onions and fried cashews.

Spice Level: Hot.

Try It: Perfect for vegetarians craving an intense chilli kick.

Himalayan Fire Ribs

We grill these succulent lamb ribs over our traditional tandoor oven, an open charcoal flame. Then we coat the ribs with a bold Nepalese chilli sauce that is sweet and spicy at once.

Spice Level: Super Hot

Try It: Experience an explosion of tangy and fiery chilli flavours.

Chilli Paneer

Paneer is an Indian cottage cheese: firm, tangy, and in a way it is like tofu with more flavour. The paneer is marinated in a chilli sauce, and stir-fried with mixed peppers, garlic, and dark soy sauce.

Spice Level: Medium – Hot.

Try It: A fusion of Indo-Chinese flavours with a warming spice profile.

Vegan Tofu Curry

Vegan dishes are some of the best bases for creating a spicy flavour profile, but you need to include some low notes to give the heat some depth. This dish contains firm tofu, cooked in a fragrant and fiery coconut and mustard curry.

Spice Level: Hot.

Try It: A creamy, spiced dish for vegans with a love for heat.
